Typhoid is a bacterial infection spread through contaminated food and water, most common in South Asia, Africa and parts of Latin America.

Assessment and vaccination
Your appointment includes a pre-travel risk assessment followed by a single injection, where clinically suitable.
Protection for around three years
A single dose protects most travellers for about three years, with a booster recommended for ongoing travel to risk areas.

Frequently asked questions
How long before travel should I have the typhoid vaccine?
Ideally at least 2 weeks before you travel, so protection has time to develop. If your trip is sooner, book as early as possible and we will advise you.
How long does the typhoid vaccine last?
Protection lasts around 3 years. If you travel regularly to risk areas, a booster every 3 years is recommended.
Do I still need to be careful with food and water?
Yes. The vaccine reduces your risk but does not remove it, so safe food and water habits remain important at your destination.
Can children have the typhoid vaccine?
Yes, the injected typhoid vaccine can be given from 2 years of age. Our clinician will advise on younger children during your assessment.
