This combined booster protects against diphtheria, tetanus and polio, three serious infections that remain a risk in parts of the world.

Assessment and vaccination
Your appointment includes a review of your vaccination history followed by a single booster injection, where clinically suitable.
Ten years of cover
One booster protects for around ten years, and also covers you for tetanus should you have an injury while travelling.

Adults and children aged 6 years and over
Travellers whose last booster was more than ten years ago
People travelling to areas with a risk of diphtheria or polio
Travellers going somewhere with limited access to medical care
Anyone completing or catching up on their primary course
Children under 6 years of age, who need a different paediatric product
Anyone who has had a severe reaction to a previous diphtheria, tetanus or polio vaccine
Anyone allergic to any component of the vaccine
People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
Anyone who has had a tetanus-containing vaccine within the last five years
Anyone currently unwell with a fever, where vaccination is usually deferred

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if I need a DTP booster?
If your last dose was more than 10 years ago and you are travelling to a risk area, a booster is usually recommended. We will check your history at the appointment.
Is this the same as childhood vaccinations?
It is a combined booster of the protection you received in childhood. It does not restart the course, just tops up immunity.
Can I have it with other travel vaccines?
Yes, it is commonly given at the same appointment as other travel vaccines without affecting how they work.
What if I never completed my childhood course?
Let us know at your assessment. A full course can be planned rather than a single booster, and we will advise on timing around your travel.
