Frequently asked questions
I do not know my vaccination history. Can I still have MMR?
Yes. If records cannot be found, having the vaccine again is generally safe for eligible people, and is often the practical option. We will advise at your assessment.
Why are 2 doses needed?
One dose protects most people, but 2 doses give the strongest, long-lasting protection and are the standard for full coverage.
Can adults have the MMR vaccine?
Yes. Many adults missed doses in childhood. Catch-up vaccination is worthwhile at any age, particularly before travel, university or starting work in health or care settings.
Is MMR safe?
MMR has an extensive safety record built over decades of use worldwide. Most side effects are mild and short-lived. We discuss any concerns openly at your appointment.
